5 things you didn’t know about greens+

By Genuine Health

greens+ just turned 25 years old! And to be 25 in the natural health products industry is a big accomplishment. You could say that greens+ is Canada’s OG (that’s Original Gangster, thank you very much) superfood. And you could also say that greens+ has a cult following. Can’t go a day without getting your greens+? Or know someone who can’t either? Here are five cool things you probably didn’t know about greens+.

5. greens+ is supernutrition from the seventies – but more relevant than ever

Although greens+ is 25 years old, its story began in the late 1970s in Ontario when a nutritional researcher named Sam Graci was working with at-risk teenagers. Sam saw the impact that a healthy diet and exercise had on the temperament and mental focus on these kids. It was this realization that led Sam to formulate greens+, a thoughtful combination of 23 fruits, vegetables and botanicals that provides the body with a full spectrum of phytonutrients that detoxifies, energizes and supports the whole body. When Stewart Brown, Genuine Health’s founder and president, tried greens+, he decided to bring this supernutrition across Canada.

Why this is important: When the body gets the nutrition that it needs, it has the amazing capacity to heal itself. As Sam likes to say, “Give the body the nutrition that it needs and get out of the way.”

4. greens+ isn’t just green

Bet you didn’t know that the “+” in greens+ basically means “plus every other colour in the rainbow.” Because even though your mother told you to eat your greens, she also meant that you should eat other fruits and vegetables, too. greens+ contains a rainbow of at least 18 different pigments from important phytonutrients from beet root, acerola berries, grapes, apple, Atlantic dulse, chlorella and spirulina to provide the body with a broad spectrum of plant nutrients from lycopene, ellagic acid, quercetin, hesperidin, anthocyanidins, lutein, zeaxanthin, isoflavones, indoles and of course, deep green chlorophyll. A full spectrum of colours equals a full spectrum of antioxidant protection.

Why this is important: Sure, you’ve been told to “eat your greens” but the better health advice is to eat the goodness of the rainbow.

3. greens+ nourishes rescue chimps

Chance, Jethro, Loulis, Maya, Petra, Rachel, Regis, Spock, Sue-Ellen, Tatu, Toby, Dolly, Blackie and Binky are 14 chimps who were rescued from the research, entertainment and agriculture industries and now live at a sanctuary called The Fauna Foundation. Since 2002, we have been donating greens+ to these chimps to give them the nutrition that they need to help them live out their lives with less stress.

Why this is important: Put simply, we give a damn – we make supplements that help you love how you feel, and we also care about this world and the creatures that we share it with.

2. greens+ is backed up by science

Not to toot our own horn, but greens+ is Canada’s first and only research-proven superfood. To-date, greens+ has been the subject of 9 studies and is the only superfood proven to boost energy, vitality, antioxidant protection and pH. Plus, greens+ is higher in phytonutrients – especially phytonutrients called polyphenols – than competing green foods and all-in-ones. Oh, you want to see a summary of the studies? Sure thing.

Why this is important: You can rest assured knowing that when you take greens+, it’s going to do exactly what we say it will. Because, science.

1. greens+ is good for your gut

Science is moving really fast. 25 years after its launch, we’re still finding new ways that greens+ nourishes the body, and our current obsession is the microbiome. Some really cool things were discovered this year about what gut microbes like to eat – polyphenols, a type of phytonutrient abundant in greens+, act as food for gut bacteria. And that’s just the beginning of the story.

Why this is important: gut health is so important for overall health because the gut influences everything from digestion, skin health, mood and mental outlook to body composition. Love your gut.
