From head and shoulders, to knees and toes – everyone experiences pain in their life. Pain is a valuable signal and protective mechanism of our body that gives us an indication that something is “wrong” and prevents us from, say, moving a sprained ankle that is trying to heal. Unfortunately – pain HURTS!
While joint pain, osteoarthritis and general acute and chronic pain (muscle, headache etc.) are 3 of the most common pains that plague our society – they have all been met with limited success by available pain relief treatments.
Osteoarthritis is the most common type of arthritis, affecting 1 in 10 Canadians. It’s a degenerative disease that occurs when the cartilage (the tough elastic material that covers and protects the ends of bone) begins to wear away. This degradation results in pain, stiffness and inflammation, making daily tasks increasingly cumbersome as the disease progresses. Joint pain isn’t limited to those suffering with arthritis. We rely on our joints for even the most simplistic of tasks and with overuse, injury, genetic predisposition and age, our joints can become achy and sore, making it harder to do the things we love to do.
The most well-known natural approaches to relief are glucosamine and/or chondroitin sulfate. These formulas are often seen as the only “natural” preventative measure against this progressive disease. They are subject to conflicting scientific evidence however, and require a large number of pills per day that take months to work, if at all. Not only that, but they are not suitable for those sensitive to shellfish, as they can cause intestinal upset and do not provide anti-inflammatory support. The landscape of alternative, natural options for effective treatment of joint pain and inflammation has been bleak.
Inflammation, dehydration, injury, over-use, fatigue, decreased nutritional status, poor muscle tone, and improper structural alignment, are just a few things that manifest in the form of headaches, migraines, back pain, or muscle cramps. The go-to solution to dealing with pain is popping a few nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and hoping for the pain to subside. Natural options for dealing with these types of pain include herbal remedies with limited effectiveness, or muscle relaxants that lead to drowsiness.
By only treating the symptom of pain, as many OTC’s do, or partially treating the underlying problem you cannot get to the root of the pain! People shouldn’t have to trade pain-free joints for serious side-effects, or cover up their pain with drugs that cause drowsiness. Nor should they spend money on ineffective “remedies” that don’t deliver results.
This is what inspired us at Genuine Heath to get innovative with natural, whole-food ingredients. An important part of research and development for natural supplements is looking beyond just the relief of symptoms, and addressing the underlying causes. This is a huge piece of restoring joint health that is overlooked by the vast majority of remedies out there.
